Veronica's ride started at Tring Station on a wet Bank Holiday. We cycled to Aldbury and the Bridgewater Monument, where it began to dry off. A bridleway took us along the ridge from Ashridge.
We stopped for lunch at The Chequers on Gaddesden Row, and were the only customers sitting at the picnic tables outside. It was warm enough for us. Then we skirted the eastern side of Hemel Hempstead and over the next ridge to Gorhambury, near St Albans. The weather kept improving. Photos by Iain Hawthorn
